Privacy Policy

The short version

We collect as little as we can. We do not sell your personal information. We do not use the photographs you upload to build an advertising profile of you. The two things that do involve third parties are our advertising (Google AdSense) and the processing backend that analyses uploaded images — both are described below.

YmmDigitals is an independent software studio based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and is the party responsible for the data described here. You can reach us at support@ymmdigitals.com.

Information you give us directly

Images you upload to Geotrail

When you upload a photograph to Geotrail, the image is sent to our server and forwarded to the image-analysis backend that produces the location estimate. That backend is operated for us under contract and processes the image solely to answer your request.

Uploaded images are kept only for as long as is needed to return your result and to deal with short-term operational matters such as error diagnosis and abuse prevention. They are not published, not sold, not used to target advertising, and not used to identify you.

Please bear in mind that Geotrail is a public tool and not a secure channel. Do not upload photographs containing information you would not want processed by a third-party service — identity documents, medical records, or anything similarly sensitive.

Messages you send us

If you email us, we keep the message and your address for as long as needed to deal with the matter and to maintain a record of correspondence. We do not add you to a mailing list; we do not operate one.

Information collected automatically

Like virtually every website, our servers record standard request data: IP address, the page requested, the time, the referring page, and your browser's user-agent string. This is used to keep the service running, diagnose faults, and detect abuse such as automated scraping. These logs are retained for a limited period and then discarded.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use cookies in two categories.

• Strictly necessary. These make the site work — remembering your language and storing your cookie choices. They cannot be switched off, because turning them off would break the thing you came for.
• Analytics and advertising. These help us understand how the site is used and allow our advertising partner to select and measure ads. These are optional, and on Geotrail you are asked before they are set.

You can change your choice at any time through the cookie settings on the site, and you can clear or block cookies in your browser. Blocking the optional categories does not restrict your access to any feature.

Advertising

Our sites carry advertising supplied by Google AdSense, which is what pays for hosting and for the analysis that each Geotrail estimate requires.

Google and its partners may use cookies and device identifiers to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. We do not give Google the contents of your uploads, and we do not receive from Google a list of who you are.

You can control or disable personalised advertising at any time:

• Google's own controls are at myadcenter.google.com.
• How Google uses data from sites that use its services is described at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
• Industry-wide opt-outs are available at optout.aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.com.

Who we share information with

We share data only with service providers who need it to run the service, and only for that purpose:

• Our hosting provider, which operates the servers the sites run on.
• The image-analysis backend that produces Geotrail's location estimates.
• Google, as our advertising provider, in the manner described above.

We may also disclose information where we are legally required to do so. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for other companies' independent marketing.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to object to particular uses. We will honour these requests regardless of where you live, to the extent we can identify the data in question.

Write to support@ymmdigitals.com with "Privacy request" in the subject line, and tell us which of our sites your request concerns. Note that because Geotrail does not require an account, we usually have no way to connect a past upload to you — which is deliberate, but does mean some requests cannot be fulfilled simply because the link does not exist.

Children

Our services are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

We operate from Ethiopia and use service providers located in other countries, so data covered by this policy may be processed outside your own. We take reasonable steps to ensure providers handle it consistently with this policy.

Security

Traffic to our sites is encrypted in transit, and access to the systems that process uploads is restricted. No service can promise perfect security, and we do not. What we can say is that we try to limit the damage any breach could do by holding as little as possible in the first place.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and move the effective date at the top. Material changes will be flagged on the site itself rather than made quietly.
